Demijohns are pretty cool. When you find one with writing on it’s unique. What do you do when you have a demijohn? You make a lamp, that’s what you do.
A lot of components are going into this that make it unique and usable. For one thing, everything has to be bought or made to measure. The lampshade, the electric cable, even the diamond drill bit for the grommet so the cable can be thread through the glass.
I saw a few examples online and they look wonderful and quirky. With all the elements in my room, like the crate box, the duck egg blue table and french mirror I decided on a gold electrical flex coated in cotton. I also chose a brass light fitting, however it is just slightly too small. (I have bought something in hopes it works but I’ll get to that in another post)
One problem though…I’m no electrician. Cue man. Man knows many manly things. They always just seem to know how to wire a plug. So I had an interesting lesson from my brother and it’s safe to say I’m useless.
I took everything a part and wired it together (under the careful supervision of man) and it was pretty easy. I had a lot of silly woman questions and I was pretty worried I’d wire something wrong and melt something. Even worse…blow the house up. Any way, that out of the way I have a plug that works. We did test it and it looked great. I just have to add the switch when everything has been threaded through.
